General Description
Philadelphia's gastropub craze has found a new champion in Pub and Kitchen.
This Rittenhouse Square "restaubar" is all about comfort, as diners lounge in wooden, pew-like booths while sampling local beer and in-house-infused liquors ("Pub") and mouth-watering gourmet fare ("Kitchen").
It's the perfect place to unwind after a long day.
Cuisine
Pub and Kitchen's menu features UK-inspired fare fit for your favorite bar — but with an expert touch of gourmet.
Chef Jonathan McDonald (a.k.a. "Jonny Mac," Philadelphia magazine's "Chef of the Year") applies his innovative approach to comfort food to serve up perfectly flaky fish and chips, bangers and mash and arguably Philadelphia's best burger (or so say the locals).
Other menu highlights include mussels, oysters from both U.S. coasts and lobster BLT. But with an emphasis on fresh ingredients, the menu is always evolving based on what's in season.
If you're enjoying a casual drink at the bar — and really, why shouldn't you? — a quirky selection of bar snacks includes domestic cheeses and some seriously delicious onion rings.
Atmosphere
Pub and Kitchen is your perfect neighborhood bar. Its lack of pretentiousness, tasty yet inexpensive food and fully-stocked bar make it a place you can easily visit for a quick drink or a lengthy meal with friends.
Wooden booths and spruce plank tabletops lend a rather dark vibe to the front bar, while white lights illuminate the space with a hint of romance. The night's beer menu is scrolled in chalk above the bar — a hint that, the next time you stop by, new beer selections will probably be greeting you.
The back dining room is more open, inviting your party to relax, talk and leisurely enjoy your meal.
